Sometimes it gets a little confusing explaining exactly what MYFJ is because there is so much you can do on the site. For example, you can add and create favourites, place them in to communities, add photos and team members to the favourites (great if you are a business), post notices, offers and events, make friends, send them messages and tell the world what your favourite things are by linking your Twitter account to your MYFJ account… and you do all of this through a colour you choose!
So how do you explain all of this? To help we decided to write a Wikipedia-style ‘definition’ of what MYFJ is, what you can do and where the idea evolved from:
MYFJ is a free social networking website that enables its users to create and add favourites (defined as anything you love) into a community (defined as a place or location) using colour. Each user chooses one of nine colours upon registration, which then influence the colour of the favourites they create or add, and subsequently the communities the favourites belong to. This is likened to a user leaving their coloured footprint throughout the site. MYFJ also features a set of free tools that individuals or businesses can use to promote themselves as favourites, including being able to add team members, create events, notices and promotions, as well as the ability to link their Twitter feeds to their page.
MYFJ evolved from a community website created in 2006 specifically for the Jersey community entitled ‘My Favourite Jersey’ which is a play on the saying of the same name referring to a favourite knitted garment and paying homage to the Jersey knitting industry.
This new ‘definition’ has led us to change the welcome text on our homepage. As you will see if you visit the site the text now reads:
Join MYFJ and choose a colour. Then use that colour to add anything you love. The colour you choose and the choices you make influence everything – it’s like leaving foot-prints everywhere. Send notices to any community in the world, create events, promotions, add team members and link to Twitter. And all for free!
We hope that this will make it clearer for everyone to understand what MYFJ is and all the great things you can do on the site. So come on in, have a play and help us create the largest online community of what we love!
